Floating bridges (pontoon) can be temporary or permanent. They are made up of several interconnected segments floating on the surface of the water. They are suitable for deep water and places where it is unfavorable for the establishment of classic bridges. They are built for overcoming water obstacles and their primary purpose is for passenger and road traffic. The first floating bridges were primarily built for military purposes or as wooden walkways. They are still of vital importance to military units that must cross the water gap but are also used for major road directions. Before the design begins, it is necessary to collect weather condition data from the area where the bridge construction is planned. Engineers use different techniques for floating bridges to be immobile and stable. Mostly the combination of anchors and connecting lines are used. Pontoon bridge vertical loads from traffic are taken up by means of a buoyancy principle Arhimed's law. The materials from which the floating bridges are made are wood, concrete, steel or combinations of the ones mentioned. Since water, especially the salt sea water, causes corrosion, the most commonly used floating bridges are concrete ones, due to corrosion resistance and adequate vibration absorption of traffic, waves and wind. The pieces of floating bridges are most commonly built on the coast near the planned location, transported by towing boats and anchored. This paper presents an overview of five modern floating bridges.
