Abstract (english) Nowadays, the use of renewable energy sources is crucial for the transformation of urban areas into the so-called smart cities. Solar energy plays a big role in that. It can be used via solar collectors, photovoltaic cells or by focusing solar energy. The selection of a location suitable for the construction of such plants depends on a number of environmental, infrastructural and climatic factors. The goal of this master thesis is to determine the locations suitable for the construction of solar parks in the Primorsko-goranska County by integrating multi-criteria analysis and geographic information system (GIS). Criteria used in the multi-criteria analysis were: solar radiation of the area, slope and aspect of the terrain and proximity of towns, roads, water surfaces, state border and coastlines. Therefore, input data in the analysis are: digital elevation model, slope and aspect of the terrain, solar radiation, protected areas, land cover / land use, location of towns, roads and water surfaces, coastline and state border. These data is divided into two groups: first group consists of data that define the study area through two classes of benefits for the construction of solar parks (suitable and unsuitable), and the second group includes data that define the study area through several levels of suitability (unsuitable, less suitable, suitable and very suitable). Based on the grouped input data, the analysis was performed in two phases: in the first phase, based on the first group of data, the investigated area was divided into suitable and unsuitable, while in the second phase, multicriteria analysis was applied with data from the second group as criteria. Multicriteria analysis was performed using the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) method. Investigated area was classified into suitability classes by comparison and evaluation of criteria, and by overlapping with the benefit areas from the first phase of the analysis a final map of the benefits of the area for the construction of solar parks, was obtained. Since all input data are spatial, the analysis was performed in a GIS environment and the QGIS program was used for this purpose. This approach determined the areas that are suitable for the construction of solar parks and assessed the level of their suitability for construction.
