Abstract
Secesija je stilski pokret koji se javlja na prijelazu iz 19. u 20. stoljeće i traje do početka Prvog svjetskog rata. Ostavila je traga u svim sferama ljudskog života, a osobito u umjetnosti i grafičkom dizajnu. Neke od njenih glavnih karakteristika su izrazita linearnost, organska i geometrijska ornamentalnost, simbolizam, žena kao glavna inspiracija te korištenje novih medija i materijala. Otkriće litografije u 18. stoljeću i kromolitografije u 19. stoljeću potpomogli su kasnije “rođenje” plakata, kakvim ga danas znamo. Umjetničke vrste, kojima je secesija pristupala na svoj osebujan način, postojale su kroz dugu povijest umjetnosti, ali je plakat kao novi moderan medij njezin “izum”. Osim plakatu, secesijski umjetnici imali su inovativan pristup i uređenju korica knjiga i naslovnica časopisa. Javlja se i eksperimentiranje u fotografiji, koja je u doba secesije u svojim povojima.
Abstract (english)
Arts and Crafts is the movement in art that occurs on transition from 19th to 20th century and it lasts till the beginning of the First World War. It left a trail in every sphere of human life, especially in art and graphic designs. SomeArt Nouveau’s main characteristitics are high linearity, organic and geometric ornamentality, symbolism, woman as the main inspiration and the use of new media and materials. Discovery of lithography in the 18th century and chromolithography in the 19th cetury helped the “birth” of poster art, design that we know today. Artistic styles which Arts and Crafts approached in its own particular way, existed through out the long History of Art, but the poster art like the new modern media is its “invention”. Except poster design, Arts and Craft’s artists have had innovative approach in arrangement of Book covers and of the Front pages of magazines. Experimentation in phothography also occures although in that time photography is in its infancy.
