Sustainable development is a very important factor, also recognizable in the domain of graphic design. Approach to design through product's life cycle and minimal resource consumption strategy, together with exploitation of materials with low impact on quality of environment, production that does not produce waste, and optimalisation of product's lifespan will secure Earth's social development with a healthy environment and competitive economy. Knowledge and communication, research and new approach towards environment are required for securing development that can satisfy present demand without endangering future generations. This paper presents a selection of materials and printing techniques from a design point of view through life cycle of graphic product, in direction of closing the system according to thesis „from cradle to cradle“. Purpose of this paper is to determine whether the modification of conditions in recycling of digital offset print can produce fibers of satisfactory quality for manufacturing fine graphic paper, under the condition that prints do not lose quality. All research up to now shows problems in recycling of digital prints on bases of electro photography with liquid toner. Digital print technique on basis of electro photography with liquid and solid toner is selected for printing. Temperature of the offset cylinder in first ink transfer of phase four of indirect electro photography is variable. In this printing phase particles of toner are transferred from photo conductory surface on portable medium-offset cylinder. Temperature was changed between 125 and 145 degrees Celsius. Method used for recycling of prints was alkali chemical de-inking flotation. Results of research are showing smaller effectiveness in ink removal from HP Indigo Turbo Stream prints (number of particles decreased by 31 - 59% and overall particle surface reduced by 45 - 55%, depending on temperature of offset cylinder), compared to prints made using digital technique with solid toner (number of particles decreased by 90% and overall particle surface reduced by 98%). This paper discusses specific qualities of process mechanisms regarding printing characteristics, with interpretation of results gained by functional dependence of ERIC and sheet brightness in relation to phases of recycling process.
