Abstract
Sažetak: Strah od smrti povlači za sobom i pitanje racionalnosti, odnosno iracionalnosti. Kako bismo iznjedrili odgovor na pitanje „Je li racionalno bojati se smrti?“, nužno je postulirati odrednice same smrti te prikazati probleme u koje upadaju moguće definicije. Dakle, ovaj rad bavi se temeljnim odrednicama smrti, a cilj mu je analizirati i prikazati argumente koji objašnjavaju što je smrt i je li se nje racionalno bojati. Nadalje, u radu su prikazani argumenti nekoliko filozofa poput Epikura, Lukrecija, Olsona, Feldmana, Nagela. Kroz deprivacijsku teoriju, rad razmatra trebamo li se bojati smrti. Izneseni su argumenti koji idu u prilog racionalnosti straha od smrti, kao i oni koji ukazuju zašto bi bilo iracionalno bojati se smrti. Također, iznijeta je distinkcija između straha i tjeskobe, a prikazana je i opreka između pojmova racionalnoga i opravdanoga, odnosno iracionalnoga i neopravdanoga.
Abstract (english)
The fear of death entails the question of the rationality or irrationality. In order to give an answer to the question "Is it rational to be afraid of death?” it is necessary to postulate the definitions of death itself and to present problems with them. Thus, this Thesis deals with the fundamental determinants of death, and the aim is to analyze and present arguments explaining what death is and whether it is rational to fear it. Furthermore, it presents arguments of several philosophers such as Epicurus, Lucretius, Olson, Feldman, and Nagel. Through deprivation theory, the Thesis deals with the question whether we should be afraid of death. There are arguments in favor of rationality of fear of death, as well as those suggesting why irrational fear of death should be. A contrast between fear and anxiety is also presented. Furthermore, there is a contrast between the concepts of rational and justified, and irrational and unjustified. In conclusion, the Thesis offers arguments in favor of the rationality of fear of death.
