Abstract
Tema ovog diplomskog rada je Poželjnost i problematika dugovječnog života. Čovjekova težnja za dugovječnošću postoji još od najranijih dana. Zajednička nam je vjera u znanost kao i u napredak tehnologije koji će nam omogućiti razna poboljšanja, naročito ona bitna za ljudski život i njegovo poboljšanje. Duboko vjerujemo da ćemo uz pomoć znanosti i napretka tehnologije moći otkloniti većinu bolesti koje smanjuju kvalitetu ljudskog života te da ćemo napretkom znanosti i tehnologije biti u mogućnosti dostići savršeno zdravlje, dug životni vijek, čak i vječnu mladost. Znanost nam je već pružila mnoge lijekove i cjepiva uz pomoć kojih uspješno liječimo mnoge bolesti koje su nekada izazivale smrt brojnih ljudi te lijekove koji su do sada već zasigurno doprinjeli produljenju, ali i poboljšanju kvalitete ljudskog života. Pod ljudskim poboljšanjem smatramo bilo koju promjenu u biologiji ili psihologiji osobe koja povećava šanse da će ona voditi dobar život u relevantnome skupu okolnosti, pa time i dugovječnost, odnosno produljenje životnog vijeka smatramo ljudskim poboljšanjem. Vidjet ćemo kakve bi posljedice, bilo etičke, ekonomske, socijalne, ekološke, mogle proizaći omogući li znanost i tehnološki napredak jednog dana veoma dug životni vijek svim ljudima te jesu li te posljedice dostatne kako bismo već danas obustavili napredak znanosti koji ide u smjeru sve većeg produljenja životnog vijeka ka besmrtnosti.
Abstract (english)
The theme of this paper is “Desirability and issues of longevity”. Human longing for longevity exists from the earliest days. We share the belief in science as well as the advancement of technology that will enable us to make various improvements, especially the one that is essential to human life and its improvement. We deeply believe that with the help of science and technology advancement, we will be able to eliminate most of the diseases that reduce the quality of human life and that science and technology advances will be able to achieve perfect health, longevity, even eternal youth. Science has already provided us with many drugs and vaccines to help treat many diseases that have once caused the deaths of many people and medicines that have contributed to extending and improving the quality of human life so far. Under human enhancement, we consider any change in the biology or psychology of a person who increases the chances that she will lead a good life in a relevant set of circumstances, so we consider longevity as a human enhancement. We will see what consequences, whether ethical, economical, social, ecological, could result in allowing science and technological progress one day to a very long life span for all people, and whether these consequences are sufficient to halt the progress of science in the direction of ever greater Prolongation of life to immortality.
