Abstract (english) | The aim of this study was to explore the relationship between satisfaction with physical appearance and different aspects of health assessment. We also wanted to determine differences in satisfaction with physical appearance in terms of gender, age, educational status and marital status. The study was conducted on an adult sample aged 18 to 88 years. In order to measure satisfaction with physical appearance, the BESAA Adolescent and Adult Questionnaire was used. Health assessment was obtained based on estimates of general health and health satisfaction and on the basis of estimation of sleep quality (difficulties in falling asleep, interrupted sleep, early awakening) and the duration of sleep. Data on gender, age, education and marital status were collected. The obtained results point to the conclusion that there is a statistically significant positive correlation between satisfaction with physical appearance and health satisfaction in both men and women. In women there is a statistically significant positive association between satisfaction with their looks and general health assessment. The examination of differences in satisfaction with physical appearance speak in favour of significantly lower satisfaction with physical appearance in women, but, on the other side, of significantly greater satisfaction of younger participants, as well as those who are not married. Educational status has not proved to be significant for the assessment of personal satisfaction with physical appearance. Furthermore, gender and age have shown to be significant predictors of satisfaction with bodily appearance. Key words: satisfaction with body appearance, satisfaction with health, gender, age, educational status, marital status |
