Abstract Posljednje desetljeće obilježilo je mnoštvo tehnoloških postignuća, a samim time i velike promjene u društvu. Razvojem tehnologije i pojavom novih medija, korisnicima se nude nove mogućnosti korištenja medijskog sadržaja. Potaknuti snažnim utjecajem medija i količinom vremena koju korisnici provode na internetu, znanstvenici su definirali novu vrstu ovisnosti - ovisnost o internetu. Među samim znanstvenicima još uvijek postoje neslaganja oko točnog naziva ovog problema, ali i njegova općenitog postojanja. Pojedini dijelovi svijeta bilježe veći broj ovisnika o internetu, poput Azije, točnije, Kine i Japana.
Abstract (english) With the development of technology and the appearance of new media, media users are being offered some new possibilities of receiving media content. By acknowledging the media influence and time spent using the media, scientists have defined a new type of addiction – Internet addiction. Scientists still have not reached the agreement on a unified name for this problem and whether it should even be acknowledged. The last decade was determined by many technological advances that led to a change in the society. Some parts of the world, such as Asia, in specific China and Japan, seem to be more effected by this problem. Even though there have been just a few researches conducted in Croatia regarding Internet addiction, the fact that there is a day-care hospital for Internet addicts Sv. Ivan and an advice center for people who have difficulties with controlling the use of Internet, is a clear sign that there are people in Croatia who need help and guidance. A survey as a part of a quantity research was conducted among 235 Croatian students to identify how much time students spend on the Internet, what they use it for and whether they are addicted to the Internet according to Chen's Internet Addiction Scale. The results showed that students rarely show signs of Internet addiction and most commonly have problems with controlling the urge the go online as well as time spent online. In order to fully understand the definition of Internet addiction and its treatment as well as forms of assistance in Croatia for people who have issues with Internet use, an interview has been conducted with Dr. Luka Maršić, who is a counselor for online game addicts and Dr. Irena Rojnić Palavra, who works at the psychiatric hospital Sveti Ivan.
