Abstract
Medijska je moć u današnje vrijeme neupitna. Masovni mediji dio su svakodnevice modernog čovjeka i njihov je utjecaj na publiku prisutan u gotovo svakom aspektu života. Pozitivni utjecaji medija kao što je pristup informacijama, zabava, obrazovanje i slično, upravo su zbog velike medijske moći često zasjenjeni njihovim negativnim aspektima. Mediji danas reflektiraju našu stvarnost, no stvarnost koju oni prikazuju nije uvijek potpuno istinita – medijska manipulacija, senzacionalizam i žuti tisak danas su prisutniji u našim životima nego ikad prije. Etički standardi vrijede samo na papiru jer ih novinari gotovo svakodnevno krše. Zadiru u privatnost ljudi, naslovnice i televizijske ekrane obasipaju grotesknim slikama nasilja i nesreća, djeca i maloljetnici koriste se kao alati za dobivanje simpatija javnosti i veću prodaju. Senzacionalizam je u potpunosti preuzeo naslovnice novina i udarne minute vijesti, a zbog gotovo nepostojećih etičkih standarda pri izvještavanju, povjerenje publike u medije je izrazito loše.
Abstract (english)
The power of media today is undeniable. Masmedia are a part of every persons daily life and they influence almost every part of our lives. The positive aspects of media like access to information, entertainment and education are often overshadowed byt he negative aspects of it, because of how much power the media holds. Media today are a reflection of our reality, but the reality that's presented to us isn't always completely true – media manipulation, sensationalism and yellow pages are more present now than ever before. Ethical standards are applied only in theory becausej ournalists violate theme very day. They pry into people's private lives, they bombard front pages and the news with grotesque pictures of violence and disaster, children andteens are used as tools for gaining the public's sympathy and bigger sales. Sensationalism has completely occupied the news and because of the almost non-existent ethical standards in journalism, the public trust inmedia is extremely low.
