With the development of communication technologies as well as the ubiquity of the Internet, new forms of sociability are emerging. The Internet has become a meeting place of people from around the world. It blurs the boundary between public and private. To create your own website, post your photos, share intimate moments or keep your own diary on a web page means putting your privacy out to the public. One of the most precious of human rights is certainly the right to privacy. The rapid development of technology has opened new possibilities in journalism, but has also created a series of questions about the ways in which data from the internet can be used. Online social communities (networks) gather hundreds of millions of people nowadays and they have become a virtual space of great importance. Ethical concerns about the usage of online social networks in journalism are related to the authenticity of the source, the relationship between journalists and their sources of information, the relationship between journalists' private and public lives and usage of information and photos from one's profile. In the modern world, it is getting harder every day to distinguish private from public, and in this paper we examine the protection of privacy on social networks.
