Relationship between stress, depression and resiliance in adolescents The goal of this paper was to determine a relationship between levels of stress, depression and resilience, to examine can stress and resilience predict depression and to examine if resilience has a mediating role in a relationship of stress and depression. The research was conducted on dana collected as a part of Longitudinal Adolescent Stress Study (STRESS LOAD project). The participants were adolescents who attended first or second grade of highschool, the number of participants was 1968, of whom 52.9% was female and 47% male. Average age of participants is 16.9 years. Questionnaires that were used in the research are Problem Questionnaire, Patient Health Questionnaire – 9 and Brief Resilience Scale. The results of correlation analysis confirmed significant connection between all three constructs, more precisely positive connection between stress and depression and negativne connnection between stress and resilience and depression and resilience. That confirmed the first hypothesis. The results of regression analysis confirmed that depression can be predicted based on stress and resilience and that model explained 48.2% of depression variance. That finding confirms the second hypothesis. Lastly, partial mediation effect of resilience in relationship of stress and depression, therefore resilience explains part of the impact of stress on depression, but direct effect of stress is still significant in that model. With that the third hyphotesis was partially confirmed.
