Abstract
Novovjekovna filozofija započela je Rene Descartesom i njegovim čuvenim filozofskim principom tkz. „cogitom“. Najveća promjena u odnosu na antičku i srednjovjekovnu filozofiju koja je temelj filozofije i istine imala u zbilji izvan uma koju dohvaćamo osjetilima. Mehanicistički filozofski pogled na svijet utjecao je na novovjekovne filozofe i zahtjevao da se liše temeljnih aristotelovskih ideja poput odnosa zbiljnosti i mogućnosti, forme i materije, esencije i dr. Uzrok odbacivanja aristotelovske a time i tomističke metafizike bio je u odbacivanju aristotelovske fizike za koju su postojale nove prirodoznanstvene spoznaje koje su upućivale u njenu netočnost. Posljedica odbacivanja temeljnih aristotelovsko-tomističkog metafizičkog aparata jest začetak subjektivizma koji na temeljima skepticizma lako prelazi u relativizam, a krajnji ishod ima u ateizmu.
Abstract (english)
Modern philosophy began with René Descartes and his famous philosophical principle known as the "cogito." The most significant change compared to ancient and medieval philosophy, which had its foundation in reality outside the mind and was grasped through the senses, was in this approach. The mechanistic philosophical view of the world influenced modern philosophers and demanded the abandonment of fundamental Aristotelian ideas, such as the relationship between actuality and potentiality, form and matter, essence and others. The rejection of Aristotelian, and therefore Thomistic, metaphysics was due to the rejection of Aristotelian physics, which new scientific discoveries had shown to be inaccurate. The consequence of discarding the foundational Aristotelian-Thomistic metaphysical framework was the rise of subjectivism, which, based on skepticism, easily leads to relativism, ultimately resulting in atheism.
