In this paper, we demonstrate that the meaning of the spiritual soul in Tomislav Ivančić's hagiotherapy has its origins in the biblical and Thomistic understanding of the soul; that is, the biblical, Thomistic and hagiotherapy anthropologies share the same understanding of the human being in its entirety. Furthermore, through showcasing several cosmological views of reality that emphasize the comprehension of the human being within that hierarchy, we will demonstrate how the modern scientific-technical reductionist paradigm directly contributed to the development of the concept of hagiotherapy. Even though we do not dispute every accomplishment achieved by the natural sciences, they do deserve recognition! We caution against their reductionist viewpoint's unfavorable effects, though. The transcendental tie between man and the transcendent has been disregarded by modern sciences, which have reduced man to biochemical processes. But this caused agony and suffering in the soul that they were unable to alleviate. Man's spiritual nature contains the sources of his soul's agony and suffering. This was initially noted by Viktor Frankl, who created the concept of logotherapy. Then the movement of philosophical practice became aware of that field, which is also the field addressed by hagiotherapy. Therefore, it is essential to understand the human being as a body-soul composite. If we reject any one of these, we cause conflict in human beings that shows itself as a disease of some sort.
