Abstract Posljednjih desetak godina izazovi suvremenih migracija te konkretno pitanje migranata i izbjeglica iscrpno opterećuje europski kontinent.
Abstract (english) For the last ten years, the challenges of modern migration and the specific issue of migrants and refugees have been weighing heavily on the European continent. The doctoral thesis entitled "Migration in Europe and the Church: contemporary challenges of migration from the perspective of social science of the Church" shows how European society and the Catholic Church faced - and are still facing - contemporary migration challenges and problems and what role they played in it. has the social teaching of the Church. Before discussing the so-called The author introduces the phenomenon of migration to the "European migration crisis", its causes and consequences, and the challenge it poses for European society and the Church, explains various terms and points to the causes of migration. Analyzing what the European Union (in) did to solve the problem of migrants and refugees and whether it successfully responded to the challenges set before it, it also shows the migration policy after the official end of the crisis in 2019 and how the migration process was affected by the pandemic of the COVID virus 19 in the period between 2020 and 2021, as well as the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which triggered a new multi-million wave of refugees towards Western Europe. The paper then summarizes centuries-old church teaching on migration based on biblical texts, structurally divided into two parts: the development of church teaching on migration from the church fathers to the end of the 19th century and Pope Leo XIII. to Pope Francis. Certainly, the core of the doctoral thesis itself is the fourth chapter, which talks about the phenomenon of migration from the perspective of the social doctrine of the Church. The phenomenon of migration has become a deep ethical, social and theological issue in the last ten years, and the direction of contemporary world development for the Church increasingly means dealing with precisely such issues. For this reason, there was a need for greater application of the Church's social teachings, especially in the Church, in relation to the contemporary migration crisis, which affected the fundamental values on which man's identity and dignity rest, but also the realization of his human mission through prosperity and the building of communion with God himself. and people with each other, as well as with the visible world.
