Increasing the disruptive factors in daily life makes it difficult to properly communicate between the listener and the speaker. In sports, communication between coaches and athletes started to be more important. It is divided into verbal and non-verbal, which has not been sufficiently researched yet and represents a new challenge for experts. Tennis is a sport consisting of a very complex, technical, tactical, fitness and mental skills that need to be homogenized into one. Thus, the main objective of this research was to determine the communication styles of coaches towards the player during a tennis match. Two very famous tennis coaches were taken into consideration: Darren Cahill and Sam Sumyk, who collaborated with two of the world's TOP 1 players, Simona Halep and Garbine Muguruza. The communication styles of the before mentioned coaches were analyzed on the basis of twenty videos recorded during the 2014-2018 WTA tournaments. „Content“, „Speech achievement“ and „Nonverbal signs“ were observed variables that were rated on a scale from zero to five. The results showed a significant difference in the communication styles of the two coaches, including the variables of „humour“ and „figurativeness“. Darren Cahill is more successful in the content of communication itself (3.4), compared to Sumyk (1.6). „Speech achievement“, consisting of „voice“, „pronunciation“, „pause“, „tempo“ and „volume“, is their best element of communication. „Non-verbal signs“ have not been fully and properly used. Cahill is more successful in this regard (4.78) than Sumyk (3.38), which leads to the conclusion that with observed variables, Sumyk has more room for progress. Despite this, the tennis players he coaches, have won Grand Slam titles, making his communication style recognizable and an example that the theory of verbal and non-verbal signs is not crucial for some coaches to achieve the best results.
