Abstract (english) Football is one of the most famous and popular sports today. Since the founding of the football game, its progress has always been strived for, respecting the systems of training and competition, the quality of equipment and terrain, and the training and competition regimes of top athletes. Players today during one competitive season play a lot more games during the season than they played in the 1980s and 1990s. The number of microcycle, mesocycle, and macrocycle workouts also increased, resulting in a reduction in recovery time. With the increasing demands of training and competition, players are increasingly finding themselves in trouble caused by lower extremity injuries that are particularly prevalent in football due to the specificity of sports activity. Players and coaches are often the target of numerous injuries in major competitions and international matches, which makes it very difficult to choose the players who will compete. It narrows the coach's possibilities, but also additionally burdens the athletes. The cause of all this lies in inadequate and low-quality preventive procedures within the training process, which makes footballers extremely endangered by health, and thus business. The aim of this paper is to analyze the characteristics of football, its specificity as a sport, and specific injuries of the lower extremities and try to present guidelines for their prevention. By reviewing many researches and literature, define the mechanisms and types of injuries, localize them, and determine the risk factors of injuries. The paper will present preventive measures that include the improvement of muscle and connective tissue, the development of flexibility, strength, balance and proprioception, and education on the mechanisms of injuries that need to be included in fitness training to maximize injuries in sports, and thus increase competition success.
