Abstract (english) | In order to determine the relationship between psychological characteristics and cohesion of young football players, 114 young football players from six football clubs from Dalmatia filled out Psychological Skills Inventory for Sports – Youth version (PSIS-Y) and Group Environment Questionnaire (GEQ) questionnaire. Young football players are characterized by high levels of motivation for training and play (4.06), higher level of orientation on the team (3.75), moderate self-confidence (3.43), concentration (3.13) and mental preparation (3.26) and low anxiety control (2.96). They are also characterized by higher individual attractions for the group (3.74, 3.40), then the perceptions of the real social cohesion of teams (3.12) and the real task cohesion (integration) (3.17) of playing football. Significant positive correlations have been established between some of the psychological features and measures of perception of cohesion, but those are low because the coefficients of determination show a common explanation of variance between 4% and 20%. After the dividing of total sample into two subgroups according to their psychological characteristics, it was found that between the two groups of young football players of different psychological characteristics there are no significant differences in the more measures of perception of cohesion, except in the variable of the social individual attraction tendency of the team (p = 0,04) which is significantly more expressed in Group 1. Group 1 players are also characterized by a higher level of confidence and a higher level of anxiety control than those players in Group 2. |
