Abstract
Ovaj rad opisuje život i doprinos švicarskog matematičara Leonharda Eulera u raznim granama znanosti, napose matematici. Također, ovo je pokušaj iskazivanja dijela njegove genijalnosti. U prvom poglavlju opisuje se njegov životni put koji ga vodi po Europi od Basela, njegova mjesta rodenja, do Sankt Peterburga pa do Berlina i zatim ponovno u Sankt Peterburg, gdje provodi ostatak svoga života. U drugom poglavlju rada riječ je o Eulerovim doprinosima u raznim područjima matematike kao što su matematička analiza, teorija brojeva, geometrija i teorija grafova. Upravo rad u matematičkoj analizi donosi Euleru veliku slavu u matematičkoj zajednici. Euler takoder uvodi razne matematičke oznake koje se koriste i danas. Na kraju rada promatraju se Eulerovi doprinosi u mehanici, astronomiji i kartografiji. Zbog puno napornog rada u kartografiji Euleru je oslabio vid, no gubitak vida Eulera nije obeshrabrio, već nastavlja pisati i objavljivati svoje radove sve do kraja života.
Abstract (english)
This paper describes the life and contributions of Swiss mathematician Leonhard Euler in various fields of science and especially in mathematics. Also, this is an attempt to express part of his genius. The first chapter describes his life path in Europe, from Basel, his place of birth, to St. Petersburg, then to Berlin and then back to St. Petersburg, where he spent the rest of his life. In the second chapter of the paper, Euler’s contributions in various fields of mathematics, such as mathematical analysis, number theory, geometry and graph theory are discussed. Precisely his work in mathematical analysis brings him a great glory in the mathematical community. Euler also introduced various mathematical symbols that are used today. At the end of the paper, Euler’s contributions to mechanics, astronomy, and cartography are observed. Cartography has had a major impact on Euler’s loss of vision on both eyes, but that did not discourage Euler, and he even continues to write and publish his work for the rest of his life.
