Abstract
Epilepsija je jedan od najčešćih neuroloških poremećaja. Poremećaj je karakteriziran rekurentnim epileptičnim napadima. Epileptični napad je posljedica promjene u električnoj aktivnosti neurona moždane kore, a klasificira se na djelomične, potpune i posebnu vrstu produljenog napada zvanog epileptični status. Kontrola epileptičnih napada se prvenstveno postiže antiepileptičnim lijekovima. Antiepileptični lijekovi imaju puno neželjenih učinaka koji utječu na zdravlje usne šupljine. Najznačajniji neželjeni učinak antiepileptičnih lijekova je hiperplazija gingive. Uz terapiju neželjenih učinaka antiepileptičnih lijekova u usnoj šupljini doktor dentalne medicine mora prilagoditi svoj tretman kako bi bio usklaĎen s problemima epileptičnog poremećaja. Glavni problem epileptičnog poremećaja je epileptični napad za koji doktor dentalne medicine mora biti pripravan u dentalnoj ordinaciji. Poznavanje protokola i diferencijalne dijagnostike epileptičnog napada je neophodno u radu s ovim pacijentima. TakoĎer je neophodna suradnja s neurologom
Abstract (english)
Epilepsy is one of the most common neurological disorders. The disorder is characterized by recurrent epileptic seizures. Seizure episodes are the result of change in electrical activity of cerebral cortical neurons and are classified as partial types, general types and a special kind of prolonged attack called status epilepticus. Epileptic seizures are primarily controlled with antiepileptic drugs. Antiepileptic drugs have many side effects, many of them affect the oral health. The most significant side effect of antiepileptic drugs is gingival hyperplasia. In addition to treatment of the unnwanted side effects of antiepileptic therapy in the oral cavity, dental practitioner have to adjust his/her treatment to match the problems of the epileptic disorder. The main problem of epileptic disorder is the epileptic seizure for which the dental practitioner have to be prepared in dental office. Knowledge of protocols and differential diagnosis of epileptic attack is a necessary skill when working with these patients. Cooperation with a neurologist is also essential
