Normal labor is defined as a delivery of a mature child. It starts of regular uterine contractions, and ends with the expulsion of the newborn and the placenta. It takes place during four stages of labor. The first stage of labor starts at the beginning of the labor and ends when the cervix is completely dilated. The second stage of labor begins with the full opening of cervix and ends with the delivery of the infant. The third stage of labor begins at the moment when the baby is born and ends with the expulsion of the placenta. The fourth stage of labor is the transition period from the third stage to the puerperium. Epidural anesthesia is a regional neuraxial anesthesia technique by which a local anesthetics are injected into the epidural space. Complications of epidural analgesia are numerous but rare: unsuccessful block, hypotension, motor block, postpunctional headache, epidural hematoma. The drugs used are: local anesthetics, saline and opioids. The goals of this research were to determine current knowledge and attitudes concerning epidural analgesia in labor among students of the sixth year of medicine, pupils of the fifth grade of secondary medical school and pregnant women. The research affirmed that the awareness of all groups of respondents is satisfactory, but the greatest knowledge was shown by the students of medicine. Most respondents have positive attitude towards epidural analgesia. Epidural analgesia still remains a gold standard for analgesia in labor and delivery.
