Recently, different methods have been widely used to allow the patient to visualize prosthetic work prior to its implementation. They improve communication with the patient and the technician, gain the patient's confidence, reduce the possibility of error, resulting in satisfaction for both the patient and the clinician. Before performing prosthetic treatment itself, it is necessary to analyze the objective parameters that define the aesthetics of the face and smile. Aesthetics are objectively assessed by deviation from established reference lines, points and values, as well as from generally accepted social norms and trends. The visualization methods used in clinical practice are waxup, mockup, and digital smile design. Waxup is the simplest method. Depending on the complexity of the case, wax is added to the existing teeth or the model is first trimmed and then waxed. The final result is presented to the patient. The mockup method, however, involves making provisional restorations, usually using composite materials that vividly depict the appearance of the future final work, while allowing the function to be tested. Smile digital design as the latest method, enables comprehensive evaluation of face, smile, periodontal tissues and teeth through software analysis of extra and intraoral digital photographs.
