Abstract
Dentalna anksioznost učestali je problem i veliki izazov za brojne pacijente, ali i kliničare jer se tretman anksioznih pacijenata smatra jednom od najstresnijih situacija za doktore dentalne medicine. Otežava dijagnostiku i liječenje, a može imati i ozbiljne posljedice za pacijente jer anksiozni pacijenti često izbjegavaju dentalne preglede što dovodi do pogoršanja njihovog oralnog zdravlja. Visoka razina dentalne anksioznosti povezana je s psihološkim posljedicama i reduciranom kvalitetom života. Zbog brojnih potencijalnih posljedica, prepoznavanje pacijenata s dentalnom anksioznošću od velike je važnosti za doktore dentalne medicine. Više istraživanja pokazalo je da mlađe odrasle osobe imaju veću vjerojatnost doživjeti dentalnu anksioznost nego osobe srednje i starije životne dobi. Cilj ovog istraživanja je procijeniti prevalenciju dentalne anksioznosti među studentima Sveučilišta u Rijeci, otkriti moguće razlike u razini anskioznosti studenata različitih studijskih programa i između muškog i ženskog spola. Za procjenu dentalne anksioznosti koristila se Modificirana skala dentalne anksioznosti (MDAS).
Abstract (english)
Dental anxiety is a common problem and a great challenge for many patients, but also for the clinicians because the treatment of anxious patients is considered as one of the most stressful situations for dentists. It complicates diagnosis and treatment and it can also cause severe consequences for patients because anxious patients often avoid dental checkups which leads to deterioration of their oral health. High level of dental anxiety is associated with psychological consequences and reduced quality of life. Due to the many potential consequences, identifying patients with dental anxiety is of great importance for dental practitioners. Multiple studies have shown that younger adults are more likely to experience dental anxiety than middle-aged and older people. The aim of this study is to evaluate the prevalence of dental anxiety among the students of University of Rijeka, to detect possible differences in the level of anxiety between students of different study programs and between males and females. The Modified Dental Anxiety Scale (MDAS) was used to assess dental anxiety.
