Tuberculosis is a disease caused by bacteria of the genus Mycobacterium, the most common type of M.tuberculosis. It is spread through the air and the source of infection is a sick person who, the most common has pulmonary tuberculosis. Considering that of tuberculosis are dying millions of people, it is still a public health problem. The analysis of data obtained from the Andrija Štampar Teaching Institute of Public Health the incidence of tuberculosis in Zagreb was monitored. During the period 2011-2015, 354 people were suffering of tuberculosis, while the incidence rate ranged from 7,2 cases per 100 000 people to 10,1 cases per 100 000 people. The male population are affected more often than women. In the City of Zagreb, the most vulnerable group of patients were the middle aged people. In addition to them, the other risk groups are children, the elderly, people with weakened immune systems and others. It is interesting that in the City of Zagreb, in the five year monitoring of tuberculosis were dying 19 people, while the total of affected population them only 27 vaccinated. Tuberculosis usually affects the lungs and the most affected were from tuberculosis of respiratory tract and the least affected of the miliary and nervos system tuberculosis. Based on diagnostic findings, we can see that the cause (the most common M.tuberculosis) is isolated from 292 patients. Tuberculosis is treated with antitubercular drugs, while the most acceptable preventive measure is vaccination. In order to performe efficient prevention , it is necessary to determine the disease as early as possible so as to prevent unwanted consequences. It is extremely important personal health protection and education of each individual and the community.
