Abstract
Benigna hiperplazija prostate (BHP) kronična je bolest i jedna je od najčešćih bolesti muškaraca starijih od 50 godina. Kako populacija svake godine sve više i više stari tako se učestalost bolesti povećava. Bolest ima veliki utjecaj na kvalitetu života bolesnika, ali i njihovih partnera i obitelji. Kod benigne hiperplazije prostate dolazi do povećanja prostate i time do kompresije prostatične uretre i pojave simptoma koje nazivamo simptomi donjeg urinarnog trakta (LUTS - lower urinary tract symptoms). Razlikujemo simptome pohrane i simptome pražnjenja. Simptom koji najviše utječe na kvalitetu života tj. simptom koji najviše smeta bolesnicima je nokturija. BPH dijagnosticira se anamnezom, rješavanjem upitnika međunarodnog sustava bodovanja prostatičnih simptoma, kliničkim pregledom te različitim dijagnostičkim postupcima. BPH se liječi medikamentozno ili kirurški. Kvaliteta života bolesnika može se popraviti na bolje sa pravodobnom dijagnostikom i liječenjem te se tako posljedično smanjuje nezadovoljstvo bolesnika i njihovih obitelji.
Abstract (english)
Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is a chronic disease and one of most common diseases amongst men older than 50. As the population is getting older and older every year, the frequency of the disease is increasing. Benign prostatic hyperplasia has a huge impact on quality of life in men, but also in their partners and families. In BPH the prostate is getting bigger and compresses the prostatic urethra thus developing symptoms that are called lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS). There are two types of symptoms: storage and micturition symptoms. Symptom which has a biggest impact on the quality of life is nocturia. BPH is diagnosed with patient history, by solving international prostatic symptom score questionnaire, by clinical exam and other diagnostic options. It is treated with medications or surgery. Quality of life in patients can improve with early diagnosis and treatment and with that, patients and their families can become more satisfied.
