Abstract (english) Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is one of the most controversial psychiatric disorders. Although PTSD prevalence is very high and PTSDs appear in comorbidity with various psychiatric and physical disorders, the validity of this diagnostic category is still being discussed. The term posttraumatic stress disorder appeared for the first time in the literature in the third version of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (1980). PTSD is defined as a pervasive anxiety disorder occurring after exposure to a traumatic event. According to DSM-IV (1996) traumatic events are those during which a person was exposed to a situation where his or her life was directly threatened, events during which a person was witness to death or serious injury to another person. There are certain groups that are particularly exposed to stressful and enduring situations. First and foremost, they are fighters, wounded, captives, displaced persons, and family members of these groups. The victims of PTSD live in a difficult life where each new day begins with the struggle itself. What is considered common and normal, such as the possibility of self-control, a sense of security or the desire to discover new things, victims of PTSD represents an extraordinary effort and hard work.
Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy is an efficient form of psychotherapy whose effectiveness has been proven by numerous clinical studies in the treatment of various psychic disorders. It is therefore indispensable to carry out the treatment so that the patients can easily handle the situation.
With support from the family, understanding from the society, participating in the therapy, the victim of the disorder can work on themselves and thus expect positive movement in the caring for the disease.
