Increase in the number of Internet users if followed by an increase in the amount of health related online searches, especially among youth. In such environment, hospitals have an opportunity to use internet as a teaching tool as well as use its marketing potential. Many studies have been done analysing the hospital web pages using different methods like: automated tools, evaluating content by codebooks and a small amount of papers on the problem of accessibility of those webpages for people with disabilities. All the methods have been used while making this research. A list of hospital webpages was procured from public website of Ministry of Health and it included 57 webpages of university hospital centres, university hospitals, clinics, general hospitals and special hospitals. Technical characteristics of the webpages were scored using automated test tools on four dimensions: performance, accessibility, best practices and search engine optimisation with the final score being the mean score on all dimensions in two different sets of tests. Content of the webpages was evaluated using a modified codebook and the result was added to the final scoring. Additional assessment was performed on webpages’ accessibility, usage of secure protocols and certificates and whether they were mobile-friendly. After all the mentioned evaluations, ranking of all Croatian hospitals’ webpages was created. Lack of security protocols usage was noticed for more than half of the webpages which has the potential to compromise the patient’s personal data. Considering that a new accessibility law is set to come into effect, hospitals might have to adjust their websites to meet the new requirements.
