Abstract Uvod: Medicinski otpad nastaje pri pružanju zaštite zdravlja ljudi i životinja i iz srodnih istraživačkih djelatnosti.
Ambulante u zakupu svoj otpad zbrinjavaju zasebno. Zaključak: Medicinski otpad se u Šibensko-kninskoj županiji predaje na konačno zbrinjavanje ovlaštenoj osobi, a zdravstvene ustanove nemaju uskladišten otpad duži vremenski period.
Abstract (english) Introduction: Medical waste is produced during the process of protection of the health of human beings and animals as well as during other similar research activities. According to its characteristics it can be safe and hazardous. Safe medical waste is similar to communal waste. Hazardous medical waste endangers the health and requires special treatment and processing. Goal of this research: General goal was to research the amount, kind, category and methods for medical waste disposal in health centers in Drniš, Knin and Šibenik, and in general hospital “Hrvatski ponos” (“Croatian pride”) in Knin and in the general hospital of the Šibenik – Knin County. Materials and methods: This research took place from June to August 2014., and, for the requirements of this research, a questionnaire has been used which was made specifically for this occasion. The questionnaire consists of 39 questions, 27 of them are closed – type and 12 of them open – type. There was a difference between the questionnaires used for Health centers and those for general hospitals in the part regarding data about number of offices (surgeries) or number of beds, as well as in the part regarding the means of how the facilities
in lease dispose medical waste. Results: Given results show that, during 2013. in Šibenik-Knin County in 5 tested facilities, 35.280 tons of medical waste was produced. General hospitals of the Šibenik-Knin County
and “Hrvatski ponos” in Knin produced a total of 33,422 tons of hazardous medical waste which equals 0,204 kg/per bed/per day. In the total amount of waste produced in hospitals the majority is infectious waste (82% and 97%). In health centers the majority of medical waste
(1,856 tons) is infectious as well (95,64%). Ambulances in lease dispose their waste separately. Conclusion: In Šibenik-Knin County medical waste is, for the final treatment and disposal, handed to authorized personal; and medical facilities don’t have the waste in storage for a longer period of time.
