Less
Abstract (english) INTRODUCTION: There are numerous definitions of quality of life and each introduces something new into the definition, but essentially in each of them the notion of subjective assessment of life satisfaction is mentioned. Since there is no exact definition, there are no standards for measuring quality of life. Measuring the quality of life has recently gained in importance in medicine. This is especially visible in otorhinolaryngology, as numerous surgical procedures are performed
... More precisely to improve the quality of life of patients. Quality of life is measured by various questionnaires to assess the general and disease-specific condition. There are many factors in rhinological surgery that affect the results of operations from medical, functional, psychological to the patient expectations and information given to the patients. ----- OBJECTIVE: Using the SNOT-22 questionnaire, describe changes in the quality of life after rhinological operations and describe the impact of information and expectations of patients on the outcome (changes in the quality of life). ----- PATIENTS AND METHODS: 36 patients at the Clinic for Otorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery of the Clinical Hospital Centre „Sisters of Mercy“ completed the SNOT-22 questionnaire before and after surgery. Respondents were asked questions about being informed about their conditions before surgery and about their expectations after surgery. ----- RESULTS: The result of the SNOT-22 questionnaire before surgery was 34.29 +/- 4.733, while after surgery it was 20 +/- 7.681, which gives an average reduction of 14.29 (41.67%). The highest average result before the operation was for the item "nasal blockage" (3.59), and after the operation the item "waking up at night" (1,941). Respondents received the most information from the operator and the least from other acquaintances. Most respondents indicated that their quality of life after surgery was above expectations. ----- CONCLUSION: The quality of life after rhinological surgeries in the vast majority of subjects improved. It was observed that the respondents who were best informed had the greatest improvement in quality of life, but the sample was too small for the result to be statistically significant. Respondents indicated their quality of life after surgery was above expectations. Less
