Etiologija bolesti uključuje genetske i okolišne čimbenike.
Abstract (english) Gambling disorder is a repetitive gambling activity that disrupts a general condition or causes a significant problem for a person. ICD-11 classifies gambling addiction ,as a disorder caused by gambling, in the category of Disorders related to addictive behaviors together with a disorder caused by playing games. The prevalence of this disease in the world is between 0.01 and 10.6%. The etiology of the disease includes genetic and environmental factors. Today, the most important trigger for the gambling disorder is considered to be the high availability of gambling, i.e. the possibility of gambling online. Men, singles, and people in a socially deprived environment have a higher risk of developing this addiction. However, the adolescence is considered as a critical period of brain sensitivity for the development of addiction such as gambling addiction. 12.9% of high school students in Croatia meet the criteria for problem gambling. Since gambling disorder causes significant psychosocial consequences, it is necessary to devise quality preventive interventions. The most commonly used gambling disorder prevention programs are selective preventative interventions designed according to a harm reduction model. There are numerous prevention programs for adolescents in the world, and the most successful are those of longer duration that include multiple aspects of addiction. An example of a quality gambling addiction program is the Croatian prevention program "Who Really Wins". The program is based on the adequate education of professionals who work with young people and the goal of the program is to improve knowledge about gambling and reduce the involvement of adolescents in gambling activities.Gambling addiction is a disease that causes significant mental and social problems and is associated with many psychiatric and physical comorbidities. Prevention of this disease is a significant public health imperative, which should include the individual, family, social environment with appropriate legislation and interdisciplinary professional cooperation.
