Eating disorders as pathological behaviours that impair the functioning of individuals in society vary among diagnoses: Anorexia nervosa, Bulimia nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder (BED), Avoidant / Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID), Other Specified Feeding and Eating Disorder (OSFED) and Unspecified or Eating Disorder (UFED). In this classification, overlap and transition from one eating disorder to another are not unknown. A psychodynamic approach can help understand and treat possible causes that contribute to the development of eating disorders, such as poor interpersonal relationships or suppression of anger and other negative feelings in childhood. Psychosomatics in the context of eating disorders is most evident through the vicious psychosomatic - somatopsychic circle that includes endocrine changes, alexithymia and the emergence of a "psychosomatic family". Furthermore, it is necessary to observe eating disorders through the role of social factors that can positively and negatively affect the individual. Peer and social pressure as well as exposure to various media is not negligible. Orthorexia as a possible diagnosis that has not yet been recognized, first appearing in the late 90's and is developing through possible diagnostic criteria and different scales for its measurement. There is currently no golden standard for measuring orthorexia and its definitive distinction between healthy orthorexia and pathological orthorexia nervosa. The association between orthorexia and body mass index, gender, perfectionism, and obsessive-compulsive disorder has not been fully established, although there are indications.
