This cross-sectional research analyses the breast-feeding and complementary feeding practice of mothers with infants. There are many different views on how the feeding of infantry should be conducted, mainly because of cultural, social and demographic differences between certain groups. For this reason, the European Society and the North American Society for Pediatric, Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition issued a set of guidelines concerning nutrition during the infant period. ----- The aim of this position paper is to investigate to what extent the feeding practice of 157 mothers with infant children in Zagreb nurseries matches the recommended guidelines. Regarding breastfeeding, the ratio of women who initiated breastfeeding, the duration of exclusive breastfeeding and the overall duration of breastfeeding were determined. Subsequently, which type of infant formula was introduced by the mothers and when was explored. Finally, the complementary feeding practice were examined, specifically the types of nutrients used and the time when they were introduced. In conclusion, the feeding practices of the surveyed population matched most of the recommended guidelines. Issues regarding infant nutrition where improvement is needed were identified.
