Background: Eating disorders are serious behavioral problems, incurred as a result of multifactorial interactions. Usually, they can be categorized as bulimia nervosa, anorexia nervosa, and disorders that are not otherwise specified. This thesis presents a survey of literature dealing with various therapeutic approaches to the ultimate treatment outcome over the last ten years. ----- Methods: We used „PubMed“ database. By inputting the key words: psychodynamic or psychoanalytic, behavioral or cognitive, bulimia, anorexia and eating disorders, we obtained the total of 55 references. 42 papers were left out in line with the exclusion criteria, so this survey includes 13 studies altogether. ----- Results: The results are presented in three groups of articles. The first group of papers shows a comparison of different therapeutic approaches regarding the diagnosis. The second group of papers describes the impact of different personality traits on therapeutic outcome. The third group is focused on the basic characteristics of therapeutic approaches in the treatment of eating disorders. ----- Conclusion: Two basic therapeutic approaches in the treatment of eating disorders are cognitive behavioral and psychodynamic therapy. Although in most of the studies they have not achieved significant differences in outcomes, the first approach is far more present in everyday practice. Cognitive behavioral therapy generally scores faster results, the percentage of improvement is almost the same for both therapies.
