Abstract Hormoni sudjeluju u regulaciji fizioloških procesa u svim organskim sustavima, uključujući kožu. Važno je odabrati ispravne dijagnostičke metode radi otkrivanja podležeće endokrinopatije u svrhu zaobilaženja simptomatskog liječenja kožnih lezija i propisivanja primjerenog liječenja endokrinog poremećaja.
Abstract (english) Hormones regulate physiological processes in every organ system, including the skin. The endocrine system and the skin interact through complex mechanisms, and endocrine disorders, due to the lack or excess of certain hormones, lead to changes in the morphology and function of the skin. Skin manifestations can serve as markers of endocrine disorders, sometimes being the first manifestation of an endocrine disorder. Although some skin manifestations may be pathognomonic of an underlying endocrinopathy, most are nonspecific and require careful evaluation. Some skin manifestations can be recognized on physical examination, while others require biopsy and pathohistological analysis. It is important to choose the correct diagnostic methods for detecting the underlying endocrinopathy in order to bypass the symptomatic treatment of skin lesions and to prescribe the appropriate treatment of the endocrine disorder. Diabetes mellitus, whose incidence is constantly increasing, leads to numerous comorbidities if not treated on time. If thyroid disorders are not diagnosed in time, they can have a significant effect on the body due to their role in the regulation of cardiac and gastrointestinal function, development and function of the brain, physical development, and cellular metabolism. Cushing's syndrome is associated with reduced quality of life and increased mortality due to its attributed comorbidities such as metabolic syndrome and hypertension, which significantly increase cardiovascular risk. Adrenal crisis is the most severe clinical manifestation of Addison's disease. Polycystic ovary syndrome is associated with insulin resistance, glucose intolerance and changes in lipid metabolism, all of which are risk factors for cardiovascular disease. This paper is an overview of the mentioned endocrinopathies and their attributed skin manifestations, with the purpose to detect endocrine disorders as early as possible in order to prevent their complications. Diagnostic methods and therapy of skin lesions and endocrine disorders are described as well.
