Abstract | Posljednjih nekoliko godina sve se više govori o dostojanstvu i pravima bolesnika.
život, jer narušavaju najbolje vrijeme života pojedinca i postepeno ga dovode do
nesposobnosti.
Abstract (english) | Talking about the dignity and rights of the patients is more often in the last few years.
Human dignity is a basic human right, it is the basis for the all rights that must be
ensured to every human being. The Code of Ethics for nurses in the Republic of
Croatia obliges nurses to respect the patient's dignity. Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a
chronic immune-mediated demyelinating disease of the central nervous system. It is
considered as one of the most important diseases that change life, because it
disrupts the best time of an individuall life and gradually leads him to incapacity.
Timely initiation of drug treatment, that modify the course of the disease, significantly
reduces the progression of the disease and disability of the patient. The manuscript
presents the results of a study of hospital factors that affect the dignity of patients
with MS conducted at the Department of Neurology, University Hospital Centre
Zagreb, on a total sample of 150 subjects. For the purpose of this research, the
dignity scale of hospital patients was used, i.e. a questionnaire in which patients
answered questions describing their expectations and satisfaction regarding the
behavior of doctors and nurses during their stay at the Department of Neurology. The
results of this research show that the expectations of the patients treated at the
Department of Neurology, University Hospital Centre Zagreb are fulfilled, that is, their
dignity is preserved and not violated in regard to hospital factors (duration of illness,
frequency of therapy, type of therapy, place of residence, whether patients are
hospitalized or treated in a day hospital, gender, age, marital status, and what kind of
treatment better suits the patient's needs) that were considered in this research. |
