Abstract (english)
AIMS: To identify the share of open access (OA) papers in the total number of journal publications authored by the members of the University of Zagreb School of Medicine (UZSM) in 2014. ----- METHODS: Bibliographic data on 543 UZSM papers published in 2014 were collected using PubMed advanced search strategies and manual data collection methods. The items that had "free full text" icons were considered as gold OA papers. Their OA availability was checked using the provided link to full-text. The rest of the UZSM papers were analyzed for potential green OA through self-archiving in institutional repository. Papers published by Croatian journals were particularly analyzed. ----- RESULTS: Full texts of approximately 65% of all UZSM papers were freely available. Most of them were published in gold OA journals (55% of all UZSM papers or 85% of all UZSM OA papers). In the UZSM repository, there were additional 52 freely available authors' manuscripts from subscription-based journals (10% of all UZSM papers or 15% of all UZSM OA papers). ----- CONCLUSION: The overall proportion of OA in our study is higher than in similar studies, but only half of gold OA papers are accessible via PubMed directly. The results of our study indicate that increased quality of metadata and linking of the bibliographic records to full texts could assure better visibility. Moreover, only a quarter of papers from subscription-based journals that allow self-archiving are deposited in the UZSM repository. We believe that UZSM should consider mandating all faculty members to deposit their publications in UZSM OA repository to increase visibility and improve access to its scientific output.

Udio otvoreno dostupnih radova u ukupnom broju radova zaposlenika Medicinskog fakulteta Sveučilišta u Zagrebu ----- Cilj: Odrediti koliki je udio radova u otvorenom pristupu u ukupnom broju radova koje su zaposlenici Medicinskog fakulteta Sveučilišta u Zagrebu objavili u časopisima tijekom 2014. godine. ----- Postupci: Kombinacijom metoda pretraživanja i pregledavanja PubMed-a prikupili smo bibliografske podatke o 543 članka koje su zaposlenici Medicinskog fakulteta objavili 2014. godine. Članke koji su nosili oznaku „besplatan pristup cjelovitom tekstu“ (prema eng, „free full text”) smatrali smo člancima objavljenim zlatnim putom otvorenog pristupa. Dostupnost tih članaka provjerili smo slijedeći izravnu poveznicu na cjeloviti tekst. Postojanje zelenog puta otvorenog pristupa preostalim člancima utvrdili smo pretraživanjem institucijskog repozitorijia. Posebnu pozornost obratili smo člancima objavljenim u hrvatskim časopisima. ----- Rezultati: Cjelovitom tekstu 65% članaka zaposlenika Medicinskog fakulteta moglo se pristupiti besplatno. Većina tih članaka objavljena je u časopisima koji koriste zlatni put otvorenog pristupa (55% svih analiziranih članaka, odnosno 85% svih članaka u otvorenom pristupu). U Repozitoriju Medicinskoga fakulteta pronašli smo još 52 slobodno dostupne autorske inačice radova objavljenih u komercijalnim časopisima (10% svih članaka ili 15% svih članaka u otvorenom pristupu). ----- Zaključak: Ukupan udio članaka u otvorenom pristupu u našem istraživanju bio je veći nego u sličnim istraživanjima, ali je cjeloviti tekst samo polovice članaka objavljenih zlatnim putom bio dostupan izravnom poveznicom iz baze PubMed. Ovo istraživanje ukazuje da bi veća kvaliteta meta-podataka i povezivanje bibliografskih podataka s cjelovitim tekstom članaka objavljenih zlatnim putom mogli osigurati njihovu bolju vidljivost čemu bi poglavito trebala težiti uredništva hrvatskih medicinskih časopisa. Osim toga, samo četvrtina članaka iz komercijalnih časopisa koji dopuštaju samopohranjivanje dostupna je u Repozitoriju Medicinskog fakulteta. Smatramo da bi u svrhu povećanja vidljivosti i dostupnosti znanstvene produkcije ustanove Medicinski fakultet trebao obvezati sve zaposlenike na pohranu članaka u fakultetski repozitorij.
