Objective: The aim of this study was to examine the frequency of smoking, obesity and hypertension in patients with renal cell carcinoma and examine the possible differences with regard to gender. The aim was to determine the number of patients without metastases present at the time of the diagnosis. Study design: Cross-sectional study Subjects and methods: The study included 48 patients treated at the Department of Urology of the University Hospital Center Osijek diagnosed with kidney cancer from 1 January 2018 to 1 June 2019. Data on subjects were collected in June 2020 from the patients’ medical history. The data observed included: age, sex, presence of hypertension, presence of smoking, body mass index (BMI), and presence of metastases at the time of the diagnosis. Results: The study included 48 patients, 32 (67%) of whom were men and 16 (33%) women. The median age was 62 years (interquartile range 57 to 69 years) ranging from 35 to 82 years. There were 10 smokers (26%), with no significant difference in relation to sex. Hypertension was observed in 41 (87%) patients, also with no significant difference in sex. Most patients, 22 (47%) of them, are overweight, while 17 (36%) are obese; with no significant difference in relation to sex. There were 41 (85%) patients without metastases, without a significant difference in relation to sex. Conclusion: The incidence of smoking, obesity and hypertension in patients with renal cell carcinoma is 26%, 36% and 87%, with no significant difference in relation to sex. There were 41 (85%) patients without metastases.
