Goal The goal of this research was to determine the effect of associations on the quality of life of neurological patients and determine the level of satisfaction with the work of neurological associations through subjective evaluation of examinees with the work of the associations. Based on the data gained from 37 examinees, it was ascertained whether the work of the associations has a significant influence on an increase of the quality of life after enrolling in an association. Examinees and Methods The examinees are members of three neurological associations from the Osijek-Baranja County: the association of myasthenia gravis patients “Dodir Anđela”, the association of Parkinson’s disease patients “Buđenje” and the association of cerebrovascular patients “Cerebro”. The research was undertaken during regular meetings of these associations, in December 2015. The sample consisted of 37 examinees. The average age of examinees is 63 years. The average duration of their condition is 13 years and the average duration of their membership is 7 years. An anonymous questionnaire was used as a survey instrument, which consisted of four domains: general information, self-evaluation of the knowledge and behavior of examinees before and after enrollment and current satisfaction with the work of the associations. Results The research showed that the examinees, through self-evaluation, show a significantly greater satisfaction with their knowledge of and behavior connected to their condition after enrollment in an association. The greatest difference before and after enrollment is indicated in the statement that concerns establishing contact and communication with other patients. They show a positive attitude toward the current work of the associations. Conclusion The research shows that the work of patient associations significantly increases the quality of life of neurological patients and that all members of associations are satisfied with their work.
