Abstract (english) | Objectives: The aim of this study was to determine the cognitive status of patients with a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis who are scheduled to receive ocrelizumab therapy.
Participants and interventions: This study included sixteen patients of the Clinic of Neurology of the Clinical Hospital Center Split with a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis before receiving ocrelizumab therapy. In the period from June 1 to June 30, 2021, patients underwent neuropsychological testing using a test battery consisting of nine tests and examining multiple cognitive domains. The cognitive tests used were Raven’s progressive matrices, Digit span, Corsi, AVLT, TMT A, TMT B, SDMT, Stroop, and MFPT.
Results: Statistically significant variability of intertest values was found in patients with multiple sclerosis in Raven's progressive matrices (P=0.003), TMT A test (P=0.001), Corsi test (P=0.000), Digit Span test (P=0.009) and the number of wrong answers (P=0.000) and total resolution time (P=0.017) of the Stroop test. The results of the applied tests in patients with multiple sclerosis do not differ significantly from the results of the control group.
Conclusions: Research has shown that patients with multiple sclerosis have impaired visuo-spatial search, information processing speed, mental flexibility and attention while their logical-analytical abilities and working memory are spared. |
