Abstract CILJ ISTRAŽIVANJA: Ispitati razinu zastupljenosti težeg kolornog poremećaja: dikromazije na području Splitsko-dalmatinske županije.
Abstract (english) Objectives: To examine the level of prevalence of severe color disorder: dichromasia in the Split-Dalmatia County. In addition, the goal is to raise awareness of color blindness as a public health problem and thus make it easier for young daltonists to deal with everyday obstacles.
Materials and methods: The tests were performed at the University Hospital of Split and the “Željezničara” Health Center in Split, as well as in the field at general practice clinics. Study is retrospective and covers a ten-year period, from 2012 to 2022. A total of 9974 respondents, male from 15 to 45 years of age, were examined. All subjects underwent a complete ophthalmological examination so that only subjects with healthy eyes could participate in the study. Pseudoisochromatic tables according to Ishihara and Stilling were used for color vision tests. If the subjects made mistakes, they were further processed on the Rodenstock orthoreter with plate No. R 173 and on the Nagel II anomaloscope and, if necessary, the Hue-Lanthony 40 test.
Results: In the study, 239 dichromats were found, which makes up 2.4% of the population. A statistically significant difference was found in the dyschromatopsia subgroups (P<0.01). Out of the dichromate subgroups in the Split-Dalmatia County, there are 149 or 1.5% protanopes compared to 90 or 0.9% of deuteranopes. Tritanopa were not found. We can say that in the ratio of protanopes and deuteranops, protanopes have an advantage with a difference of 59 subjects, that is, protanopia has a higher prevalence by 0.6%. The prevalence of dyschromatopsies in the Split-Dalmatia County (8.5%) roughly corresponds to the European average (8%).
Conclusions: Intensive work should be done to promote this public health problem, as well as to improve its diagnosis, detailed distinction between subgroups, adaptation of individuals to society and education of medical staff.
