Abstract (english) | Objectives: The aim of this research was to compare laboratory and anthropometric parameters in patients treated with the androgen deprivation therapy in relation to the control group in the beginning of the trial and six months later.
Subjects and Methods: A total of twenty patients with non-metastatic prostate cancer were included in the study, of whom ten recieved androgen deprivation therapy and the rest of them were controls. This research was conducted through two visits. The first visit was at the time of the inclusion in the study. The second visit was six monthts later. During each visit their medical histories were taken, anthropometric parameters were also recorded with Tanita scale to measure body composition and their blood was drawn for the laboratory findings.
Results: After six months of the inclusion in the study, statistically significant differences were not found observing the control and the test groups. However, taking into account only the test group, we encounter statistically sigificant differences after six months of the treatment. On the one hand, in the test group, body fat content has increased (P=0.005). On the other hand, the body water mass (P=0.0391) and the body water content (P=0.037) decreased. In addition, their Beta-CrossLaps value (P=0.027) and phosphate concentration (P=0.0137) increased. Their total cholesterol (P=0.0039), HDL (P=0.0078) and LDL (P=0.0039) concentrations also increased.
Conclusions: In patients with non-metastatic prostate carcinoma after six months of treatment with the androgen deprivation therapy, there are changes in the body composition, their bone metabolism is accelerated and they have changes in their lipids concentrations in the blood samples. |
