ispitanik. Svima je ultrazvučno izmjerena FMD brahijalne arterije i IMT karotidne arterije.
Rezultati: Srednje vrijednosti brahijalnog FMD-a bile su značajno niže među glaukomskim
bolesnicima u usporedbi s kontrolnom skupinom (15,3 ± 9,5% prema 19,8 ± 9,3%, P=0,040).
Nije pronađena značajna razlika u IMT-u karotide (1,2 ± 0,4 naspram 1,1 ± 0,3, P=0,400) i
promjeru brahijalne arterije u mirovanju (4,7 ± 0,6 naspram 4,9 ± 0,3, P=0,200) između
pacijenata s glaukomom i kontrolne skupine.
Pacijenti s glaukomom s nižim vrijednostima brahijalnog
FMD-a imali su više vrijednosti IMT-a karotide. |
Abstract (english) | Objective: The purpose of our research was to evaluate FMD of the brachial artery and IMT
of the carotid artery and their relationship in patients with glaucoma using ultrasound
measurements.
Subjects and methods: 37 patients with glaucoma and 31 healthy subjects were included in
the study. We measured their FMD of the brachial artery and IMT of the carotid artery using
ultrasound.
Results: Mean values of brachial FMD were significantly lower among glaucoma patients
compared to controls (15.3 ± 9.5% vs. 19.8 ± 9.3%, P=0.040). No significant difference was
found in carotid IMT (1.2 ± 0.4 vs. 1.1 ± 0.3, P=0.400) and brachial artery diameter at rest (4.7
± 0.6 vs. 4.9 ± 0.3, P=0.200) between glaucoma patients and controls. A significant difference
was found in the diameter of the brachial artery in hyperemia between patients with glaucoma
and the control group (5.4 ± 0.6 vs. 5.9 ± 0.4, P=0.002). A negative correlation was found
between brachial FMD and carotid IMT (ρ=-0,460, P <0,001).
Conclusions: Reduction of brachial FMD indicates the presence of systemic vascular
endothelial dysfunction in glaucoma patients. Glaucoma patients with lower brachial FMD
values had higher carotid IMT values. |
