Objectives: Goal of our study is to investigate current changes in risk factors for recurrence of chronic subdural hematoma (CSDH) whit special attention to epidemiology data, usage of antiplatelet and anticoagulant therapy, CT scans, anamnestic data. Patients and methods: Retrospective study was made for the period from January 1st , 2010 to December 31st, 2014. Study enrolled 131 patients that were hospitalized, during the time period, for the diagnosis of chronic subdural hematoma at Department for neurosurgery, Clinic for surgery of University Hospita Split, Split, Croatia. Main outcome measure was a correlation among recurrence of chronic subdural hematoma and potential risk factors (listed on page 19. of this study). Results: Patients that were not admitted as an emergency have had statistically greater chance for recurrence of chronic subdural hematoma (Spearmanr r = -0.19, P =0.02). Patients that have had ananamnestic data of using acetylsalicylic acid have statistically greater chance for recurrence of chronic subdural hematoma (Spearman r= 0.31, P = 0.0003). Conclusion: We have concluded that there is a correlation between usage of acetylsalicylic acid and increased risk for recurrence of chronic subdural hematoma. Further research is required, on larger number of subjects, to define wether the information about preoperative usage of acetylsalicylic acid can be used as a marker of increased risk for recurrence of chronic subdural hematoma. For the majority of analyzed potential recurrence risk factors we found no statistically important correlations for increased risk of chronic subdural hematoma recurence.
