Gotovo polovica studenata redovito vježba, i to više studenti nego studentice.
Abstract (english) Objectives: The aim of this study was to examine the presence of burnout syndrome along with work and social engagement of students attending the study programs of medicine, medicine in English, dental medicine and pharmacy at University of Split School of Medicine.
Material and Methods: A transversal study was conducted using a questionnaire. The questionnaire was anonymous and distributed to students at University of Split School of Medicine who attended classes in April, May and June of 2019. The data were analyzed in Microsoft Office Excel 2016 and JASP 0.9.2.0. Descriptive analysis was performed, and the results are presented in percentages, and median or mean ± standard deviation (SD) for continuous variables. Non-parametric χ 2 test was used to estimate the difference between the groups and the correlation between the variables.
Results: 938 students participated in the study. Emotional exhaustion was mostly seen in pharmacy students (61%), the least in medical studies in English students, 38.8%. Two-fifths of medical, dental and pharmacy students have shown signs of cynicism and lack of enthusiasm, as opposed to just one fifth of medical studies in English students. There are significant differences between students of different years in dental medicine regarding meeting their expectations at the studies. Students of medicine in English showed the greatest consistency with the statements on devotion to their studies. Pharmacy students volunteer in highest percentage, with percentage growing toward the higher years of study. Almost half of the students exercise regularly, more male than female students. Dental students have the most time for working, and students are more often employed in their final study years. Almost two-thirds of students would like to have a person at their studies to address with their emotional difficulties during their studies.
Conclusion: Emotional exhaustion and cynicism are present among the students, with a greater presence in medical, dental, and pharmacy students than with studies in English students, and cynicism has increased towards higher years of study. For their future after graduation, the biggest concerns were seen in medical and dental students, significantly higher in female compared to male students. Academic efficiency is present among the students, but devotion and energy invested in studying have been greatly reduced. Medical students in English have demonstrated a high level of academic effectiveness and commitment along with the energy for their study responsibilities.
