Self-regulation in a general sense can be applied in the area of bad personal habits, such as eating, cleaning the apartment, etc., but also in habits and daily work plans for learning, and in the context dealt with in this thesis – instrumental music practice. Self-regulation in the sense of optimizing the learning process in general is a very well researched concept, but there are many shortcomings in the research and use of selfregulation for the purposes of instrumental practice. According to the review and analysis of research and analytical papers on self-regulated practice it can be concluded that self-regulation is a very important and significant concept and should be methodically used by every instrumentalist musician, from the very beginning of learning an instrument as a child all the way to musicians at a professional level. Modern technology and social networks could also be used as a practical tool during practice, which also represents a very interesting area for future research. The paper as well found evidence that self-regulation of practice is a poorly researched concept with many deficiencies and that too little attention is put on the use and teaching of self-regulation strategies and methods in the field of musical instrument education.
