This thesis describes the appearance of corrosion, as well as the division of corrosive processes according to the mechanism of action, the appearance of the corrosion attack and by the corrosive environment. Electrochemical corrosion is explained along with ways metal surfaces can be protected from electrochemical corrosion. One of the ways to protect metal surfaces is achieved by cathodic protection using sacrificial anodes or by impressed current. The sacrificial anodes are divided according to their chemical composition and the advantages and disadvantages of their use are highlighted. The properties of zinc and zinc alloys used for the production of protectors are listed. At the same time, expressions for determining the parameters of the protector in order to achieve the necessary cathodic protection are presented. In the same way, the guidelines for the selection of protectors depending on the electrolyte and the material of the ship, as well as the guidelines for the deployment of zinc protectors on the vessel are listed.
