WLAN wireless networks in today's world are an indispensable part of modern life. They are constantly evolving, improving the ways of communication and the ways of applying multimedia content. With the development of new technologies that enable the creation of multimedia content, but also the technology of "Internet of Things", the growing need for technology that will enable the consumption of that content remotely and enable real-time communication between devices and their users. It is for this reason that new Wi-Fi standards are being developed that enable ever-increasing bandwidth, coverage and data security speeds. The IEEE 802.11 standard group is currently the most widely used standard for wireless local area networks. With the increase in the number of users and their increasing requirements, the requirements for these networks in terms of performance, speed, spectral and energy efficiency and coverage areas are becoming more stringent. In the future, we try to meet these requirements by developing new and innovative substandards within the 802.11 group. It is necessary to systematically and analytically investigate the new guidelines for the future development of the IEEE 802.11 group of standards, and to analyze the new proposed substandards (as well as those that are still in the development phase within the IEEE 802.11 working group). Highlight guidelines for further development in terms of speed (performance), range extension (coverage area) and ease of use (configuration).
