Primary generalized dystonia is one of many forms of the eponymous disease. The adjective primary stands for the unknown cause of the illness, while the adjective generalized refers to a involvment of the whole body due to illness. Characteristically for this neurological disorder are abnormal, twisting dystonic movements of the entire musculoskletal system caused by strong spasms. That as a only symptom causes consequently an enormously severe clinical picture of a patient with primary generalized dystonia. This form of the disease is extremly rare and inexorably progressive. For this reason, the affected person after a certain time takes on a characteristic abnormal patterns of movement and becomes tottaly dependent on others. The disease was first described in the 20s of the last century when a handfull of scientists looked at a group of children affected by this phenomenon then called a syndrome. Becouse of the comlexity of dysonia, this typ was often misinterpreted but over the time it has been successfully described and cassified. Scientific studies point out two imoprtant features of the disease, such as family phenomenon and ethnic preference disease in European Jews. Based on this facts the theory of a hereditary disease etiology has been proved. Scientist Ozelius first revales the locus DYT1 of primary generalized dystonia. The gene is called Torison A gen and it is considerd to be the main culprit for the occurence of the disease. The disease has no signs of brain degeneration, but the main problem is in the brain's basal ganglia structures, what kind of a problem is in the brain's base is not yet been discoverd. As the disease is not fully clarifyed, there is no real cure. Patients recive therapy for a wide range of clinical manifestations, but not for the cause. Pharmacotherapy combined with the methods of physical and occupational therapy is used for the purpose of treatment, as we can see on te case report.
