Abstract (english) The subject of this paper are the contributions of personal traits and religiousness to the quality of life and adjusting to life after suffering a heart attack.
The goal of research is to determine how personal traits (sex, age, education, working and marital status) and religiousness affect the quality of life and adjusting to life after heart attack. The research encompassed data taken from 100 patients of both sexes who had suffered a myocardial infarction. The timeframe was from January 2016 to October 2016 at the Cardiology Clinic of the University Hospital Centre Split.
The research instruments were: Questionnaire on general data (on age, sex, working status, education status and marital status), Santa Clara Strength of Religious Faith Questionnaire (measuring the strength of faith regardless of the denomination), life satisfaction rate (assessment of global life satisfaction rate and assessment of situational life satisfaction) and the Questionnaire of adjustment after suffering a heart attack (questionnaire devised for the purpose of this research). The research showed that subjects give a great deal of importance to their faith and on average lead a quality life. The fact remains that by adjusting their lifestyle, they can significantly decrease the probability of having another attack (myocardial infarction), increase the quality of life and overall prognosis of the patient.
The research showed that subjects did not adjust to the situation after having suffered a heart attack in all segments fully. By testing the link of general traits of the subjects and the quality of life, the research showed that there is no link between the quality of life and general traits like sex, age and religiousness, while there was a difference in quality of life considering general traits like education level, marital status and working status. By testing the link between general traits of the subjects and the level of adjustment after having suffered a heart attack, the research in this paper showed there was no link in the level of adjustment after suffering a heart attack and some general traits like sex, age, marital status and religiousness, while there was a difference in the level of adjustment after suffering a heart attack with regards to education level and working status.
In line with the set goals, this research concludes that personal traits (status of education, working status and marital status) and religiousness contribute to the quality of life and adjustment to the situation after having suffered a heart attack. Religious people have better quality of life and have an easier time adjusting to the period after suffering a heart attack.
