Abstract Emocionalna inteligencija predstavlja skup verbalnih i neverbalnih sposobnosti koje pojedincu omogućavaju da stvara, prepoznaje, razumije, izražava i procjenjuje svoje i tuđe emocije.
Abstract (english) Emotional intelligence is a set of verbal and nonverbal abilities that enable an individual to create, recognize, understand, express and evaluate their own and the other’s emotions. By developing that ability, a person can easily adapt to their own environment and its demands. Sometimes these challenges are overwhelming and the health care professional is often exposed to high levels of stress. The paper describes how to deal with stress and the need to prevent combustion syndrome. The purpose of this paper was to determine the differences in emotional skills among healthcare professionals and how they affect the health care and patient satisfaction.
Some authors have identified the existence of differences in emotional intelligence among men and women. Women are more empathetic and men are more inclined to logically solve problems by isolating emotions. But other authors have conducted research among the 10 most influential business leaders and found that there is no gender difference when it comes to emotional competencies. Research on the relationship between age and emotional intelligence also has different results. There is a higher EI level among older people, but some authors claim that it only depends on the learning and development of competences that young people can acquire. Furthermore, the impact of work experience on the development of emotional skills is described, but there is no significant difference between inexperienced healthcare professionals and those with a lot of work experience.
From these researches we can conclude that it is above all important to be human and to be guided by the principles of holistic approach to the patients. An ideal healthcare worker is not necessarily a woman or a man, as years do not guarantee the quality of health care. No matter what our level of emotional intelligence is, perseverance and effort are methods that will guarantee us the desired success. All the principles that make an emotionally intelligent individual must be mastered, and with our knowledge, communication and self-confidence we can create a positive working environment
