Abstract
Pretilost je trenutačno jedan od vodećih javnozdravstvenih problema, a predstavlja rizik za razvoj kroničnih bolesti koje su glavni uzrok mortaliteta u svijetu. Farmakološka intervencija je primjenjiva kod pretilih osoba koje ne uspijevaju smanjiti tjelesnu masu modifikacijom prehrane i drugih životnih navika, a pritom je bitno osigurati sigurne i učinkovite lijekove. Istraživanjima na životinjama uočeno je da oleoiletanolamid, endogeni spoj, ima učinak na smanjenje tjelesne mase, apetita, lipida u krvi i jetri, i upale u organizmu, zbog čega bi mogao biti učinkovito sredstvo za pomoć pri mršavljenju pretilim osobama. Razgradnjom daje niskorizične produkte oleat i etanolamin. Pregled literature je pokazao da je malo istraživanja provedeno na ljudima, ali do sada se suplementacija pretilih pojedinaca pokazala učinkovitim.
Abstract (english)
Obesity is currently one of the leading public health issues as a risk factor for chronic diseases which are the main cause of deaths in the world. Pharmacological intervention can be used in obese patients who have difficulty losing weight by modifying diet and lifestyle habits, nevertheless, the medicines need to be safe and efficient. Animal research has demonstrated oleoylethanolamide, an endogenous compound, to have an impact on reducing weight, lowering appetite as well as plasma and liver lipids, and finally decreasing inflammation. For those reasons, this compound is considered to be a potential medicine for weight reduction. Oleoylethanolamide hydrolysis products, oleate and ethanolamine, carry low health risks. So far little research has been done in humans, but the results indicate oleoylethanolamide supplementation in obese patients was efficient.
